Eritrean Youth Organization of Atlanta
By-Laws





Article  I.                                             Name

The name of the organization shall be Eritrean Youth Organization of Atlanta, hereafter referred to as EYOA.

Article  II.                                            Purpose

EYOA is a non-profit organization whose members are Eritreans residing in the Atlanta area.  The purpose of this organization is to uplift and consolidate scattered youth initiatives into a coherent group movement.

Article  III.                                          Objectives and Goals

EYOA is an independent youth organization that embraces all Eritrean youths in order to orient them on their national identity, tradition, culture, and history.  EYOA serves as a means to promote the Eritrean culture and inherit its gains and utilize it in the reconstruction of Eritrea.  The main objective of EYOA is to provide a forum for young Eritreans to engage in sharing ideas and experiences, discussing issues, participating in community activities, and educating themselves about national issues, and assist one another and make lasting friendships and solidarity.

Goals:

 Build a flexible organization that promotes creativity and reconciles old traditions with modern values

 Establish good relationships with all national and international Eritrean organizations and engage in collaborative efforts

 Explore and cultivate youth inclinations and interest in technology, arts and literature

 Establish clubs, sport, cultural and entertainment centers to promote a sense of community and civic responsibility

 Participate in programs that demand active youth participation in national service and reconstruction endeavors.  These
 could be in the form of internships or national service.

 Explore ways whereby the youths can participate in short and long term projects in Eritrea as well as the USA

Article  IV.                                           Membership

1. General Congress:

    A.    Shall comprise of all members of the organization.
    B.    Shall hear reports of the Executive committee.
    C.    Shall review reports, and make decisions.
    D.    Shall amend the By-laws.
    E.    Shall elect members of the Executive committee.
    F.    Shall elect an auditor from the general membership.

2. Executive Committee:

    A.   Shall comprise of:  Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Auditors Officer.
    B.   The Executive committee shall include at least one female member.
    C.   Shall be the official representative body of the organization.
    D.   Shall direct and implement the goal and objectives of the organization.
    E.    Shall oversee the activities of the subcommittees.
    F.    Shall establish standing committees and task forces as needed.
    G    Shall administer properly controlled ballet votes for major decisions.

3. Executive Committee Roles:
    A.   The Chairperson shall lead the Executive Committee meetings and represent the Organization on all matters consistent
           with its mission.
    B.   The Secretary shall keep records and minutes and handle all internal and external correspondences.
    C.   The Treasurer shall be responsible for the financial and material resources of the Organization, and for fund raising
           activities.
    D.   The Auditor(s) shall be responsible in checking the organizations financial standing by making and audit at
           least every f inancial transactions made during this period to the chairperson who in return shall present the
           information to all members during the regular meeting.

4. Subcommittees:
    A.   Shall comprise of members organized, under the umbrella of EYOA.
    B.   Shall oversee all activities related to Entertainment, Culture & History, Education, Sports, and Public Relations.
    C.   Shall have its own working by-law
    D.   Shall elect its own officers.
    E.   Shall submit every three months reports on tasks accomplished or engaged in the organization.
    F.   Every member should participate in these subcommittees and take a responsibility.

Article VI.                                            Code of Conduct

    1.   Members of EYOA shall not degrade or insult any member, or group of members in regards to his/her beliefs,
          creed, religion, gender, or age.
    2.   Every member is to abide by the above LAW and be held responsible for it.
    3.   All violations shall be reported to Executive Committee.
    4.   Member who violates this code of conduct shall be
          a. Given a warning for the first time violation.
          b. Fined** if this is their second violation.
          c. Fined** and suspended if this is their third violation.
          d. Expelled if this is their fourth violation.

    ** Fine shall be determined and carried out by the executive committee and in accordance to the extent of the violation and
    not to exceed $100.00**

Article VII.   Fiscal Period

    The fiscal year of the Organization shall be from September 1 to August 31.

Article VIII.   Dissolution

    The Organization can only be dissolved by a vote of 75% of the members in good standing.  In the event the Organization is
    dissolved, its assets shall be transferred to the Eritrean Youth in Asmara or any other institution that is preferred by at least
    75% of the members in good standing.

Article  IX.   Amendments

    The By-laws of the Organization may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote in the affirmative of the Association
    members in good standing.  Voting for By-laws amendment can be done by properly monitored vote in absentia.
